On the pledge:
In the context of the ACCEL-Africa Project, we developed a strategy to combat child labour, prevent the entry of new child labourers, and strengthen the capacity of local farmers, employers, local authorities and community initiatives to sustain the struggle against child labour, with a focus on the coffee and tea supply chains.
On the implementation:
We will develop one employers’ guide and one business guide on the policy, legal and regulatory frameworks, as well as best practices, that are necessary for the elimination of child labour.
On the impact:
This Action Pledge will allow us to sensitise the private sector in Uganda about addressing child labour issues, improve its knowledge and the capacity to enhance its compliance measures with international labour standards, and leverage international value chains and existing market dynamics through responsible business conduct to combat child labour in the workplace. The ultimate beneficiaries of this action pledge will be 1,000 children who are at risk or are already involved in hazardous child labour in the tea and coffee supply chains.
