In 2015, the United Nations adopted
the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
There are 17 goals, with 169 more specific targets associated with them. Generally, the goals promote economic, social, and environmental development. Target 8.7 is of special interest to the global community working to end child labour.
TARGET 8.7
“Take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms.”
To achieve it, we must work across organizations and borders. We must work with partners, including those focused on other SDGs and other targets, because there is crossover between them. We must use Alliance 8.7 as a platform for partners to share information, lessons, and progress.
Let’s make 2021 for children.
